Ending Abortion has nothing to do with shouting about God. Not one damn thing. Ending abortion has to do with tackling the real things, in our everyday lives, that have a bigger influence on the choices we make or feel we have to make.
Some abortions are just an educated decision made by a woman concerning her own body, whatever her reasons may be, this is not about those kind of abortions. This is in no way questioning those decisions.
What I’m talking about are the abortions that are a product of a lack of education. Abortions that are a product of a lack of sex education. Abortions that are a product of poverty and the feeling of helplessness. Abortions that are the product of the inability to afford things like birth control. Abortions that are the product of TRUE family values in the home, where a child can be honest with a parent, and not worry about politics or religion getting in the way. Abortions that are products of having only your friends to talk to about things, because mom and dad are working two jobs just to survive. Abortions that are the product of not having mentors and teachers to talk to, because your teachers are doing their best just to survive. Abortions are a product of us not tackling the issues of rape and incest properly.
Now, those of you who scream against Abortion, fact is, screaming has NEVER saved a life. Instead, ask yourself, what are you REALLY doing to try and end abortions? Are you voting for the party who wants to put more money into education? Are you voting for the party that supports sex education? Are you voting for the party who is trying to close the gap between the rich and the poor? Are you voting for the party that teaches TRUE family values? Are you voting for the party that fights for the rights of the gay person, the atheist person, the different person? Are you voting for the party that believes in fair pay and unions, which would allow parents to actually be home for their kids? Are you voting for the party that fights for Healthcare for all? Are you fighting for the party who stands up for groups like Planned Parenthood, to make sure women and girls have someone to go to ahead of time, before anything happens? Are you voting for the party that fights for educators? Are you voting for the party that doesn’t talk about rape like it was something a woman would ever want?
If the answer is yes, you do, good for you for actually knowing how we fix the problem of too many abortions in this country. If the answer is no, and instead, you just want to scream about God and sin and repentance – thank you for being part of the reason why abortions aren’t going down in this country.
Congratulations, if you are the latter, you are actually part of the problem.
You see, those of us who are pro-choice and pro-women’s rights….we aren’t pro-abortion, but we ARE pro-reality, where we know that unless the other side actually takes this issue seriously and actually wants to do things to lower the rates of what is happening in this country, we will keep fighting for the rights of women to do what they need to with their body.
In short, when YOU take the reasons why we have abortion in this country seriously….WE will start taking you seriously. If you want to keep shouting, praying and holding signs of aborted fetuses, you are showing us you aren’t really concerned with saving any of those fetuses, you are only worried about making sure your version of God knows you were angry during your lifetime, which I’m starting to wonder if that may be the ONLY reason you are pretending to be angry – to score points for later.
When you get serious about stopping abortion in America, give the rest of us a call, we’ve been working on it for a while now…but it takes a village. You’ve got our number, if not, we’re easy to find – we’re the ones who have been voting for actual Change.
